The Story Behind The Name: elleRoy

The inspiration came from a small, almost funny moment in my corporate marketing career. Back then, my work email often started with LRoy — a short and simple abbreviation of my name, Lynne Roy. One day, an acquaintance looked at it quickly and asked, “Does anyone ever call you Elroy?” The reference immediately made me laugh, since Elroy was the futuristic son from The Jetsons, a cartoon I loved to watch as a kid.

At first, it was just a passing comment, but the idea stuck with me. I’ve always loved a good play on words, and there was something about that sound “Elroy” that felt fun, sharp, and memorable. The problem was, it didn’t feel like me. As a woman building a brand rooted in strength, strategy, and creativity, I wanted something that honored my identity, not just a quirky coincidence.

That’s when a close friend offered me the spark I needed: why not use the French word elle? Not only is elle the phonetic representation of “L,” the first letter of my name, but it also means “she/her” in French. That simple suggestion pulled everything together for me. It felt feminine, strong, and personal.

Being born and raised French-speaking, the use of elle instantly connected me back to my roots. It wasn’t just clever wordplay anymore, it became a nod to my heritage, my voice, and the woman behind the brand.

So elleRoy Consulting was born.

What I love most about my business name is that it tells a story, layered with meaning. At first glance, it may just look like a name, but for those who ask, they get a glimpse into who I am. It represents the combination of my past corporate identity, a playful reinterpretation, my femininity, and my cultural background all wrapped into one.
