Five Marketing Predictions for 2022
As the saying goes, what goes around comes back around again. When it comes to marketing trends, it still applies.
That said, here are my top FIVE marketing predictions for 2022:
1. Revival of Email Marketing
Email marketing never went away, it was just lying dormant before the historic Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp crash in October 2021. Immediately, email was back in the spotlight.
Email marketing is still one of the most profitable marketing tactics. Hubspot reports that for every $1 you spend on email marketing, you can expect an average return of $42.
If you haven’t done so already, it may be worth dusting off the old email list and adding it back into your overall marketing strategy. If you’re already using email, but you’re not seeing the results mentioned above, you may just need a facelift and/or a new execution strategy.
2. More Video
Marketing with video has been on a steady incline, and it is expected to continue to rise in 2022.
Now with TikTok & Instagram Reels ruling the world, it’s in your brand’s best interest to invest in video as a way to market your business.
“76% of marketing teams surveyed invested in video production in the last three years. Of those, 44% tackled production internally, 28% hired a production company, and 23% hired freelance support.” – Lemonlight
3. Increase in Collaborations
A brand collaboration is described as “a tactical partnership between two or more brands to market a product or service under both brand names”.
There are many reasons why brands would choose to collaborate including increasing brand visibility, improving consumer trust, and boosting sales.
Collaborations have the power to be wildly successful, as long as the partnership is established wisely. Before entering into an agreement, though, first evaluate the interested brand’s reputation in the market and determine if your values align.
According to Visual Objects, 71% of consumers enjoy it when companies offer co-branded products which encourages businesses to give partnerships a try.
4. Surge in Influencer Marketing
It’s a fact… Influencers rule the world of social media! Brands leverage an Influencer’s reach and influence to generate awareness and sell more products.
According to Research & Markets, Influencer Marketing was a $10.24 Billion industry in 2021 and is expected to reach $84.89 billion by 2028.
If you haven’t done so already, it may be worth setting aside a budget that includes products, merch, and monetary compensation; since every Influencer sets their own pricing and offers, so it's best to budget for all three.
5. The Return of the QR Code
A QR Code is a custom-generated little black square that links a consumer’s mobile device to a website or landing page. They were used here and there in the past, but have now become a new normal in this “contactless” world we live in.
With the ability to scan a QR code from your smartphone camera, rather than having to download an app (like in its previous lifetime), it’s now easier than ever before. You’ll find more restaurants have adopted the QR Code to link to their menu for in-person dining, even retailers and brands are jumping on-board.
Data shows the use of QR codes increased from 35% in September 2020 to 83% in April 2021.
As the world continues to go contactless, it may be a good idea to inquire on how your brand can use the QR Code to market to your customer.
Brands and marketers alike must adapt and pivot to the changing market to ensure they remain relevant and customers will continue to engage with and buy from them.
